Service members who were discharged before completing three months of service due to being discharged medically unfit are also eligible to apply for a Former Resident Visa.
The Former Resident Visa is a permanent resident visa, meaning it lets visa holders live in Australia indefinitely.
Former Resident Visa holders can travel to and from Australia for up to 5 years for as long as the travel facility remains valid.
To continue travelling after the initial five years, the resident must apply for a Resident Return Visa or consider applying for Australian citizenship.
