Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa

The Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870) lets the parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens stay in Australia for up to three or five years.

WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS:

Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa holders can:

  • Visit Australia for up to three or five years to reunite with their children
  • Apply for further Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visas to visit Australia for up to a maximum of 10 years

THE REQUIREMENTS:

To apply for the Contributory Parent Visa, candidates must:

Furthermore, candidates must lodge their visa application within six months of the sponsorship approval or 60 days if permitted to apply in Australia.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Subclass 870 Visa holders can’t work in Australia. However, other parent visas allow the visa holder to work in Australia. These include the following visas: 

Subclass 870 Visa applicants cannot include family members in their visa application.
