WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS:

Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa holders can:

  • Live, work and study in New Zealand indefinitely
  • Include dependent children up to the age of 24 in their application

THE REQUIREMENTS:

To apply for a Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa, candidates must:

  • Be legally married to, or in a civil union or de facto relationship with a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • Be in a genuine and stable relationship with their partner and must have lived together for at least 12 months
  • Meet New Zealand’s health and character requirements

MORE ABOUT INCLUDING CHILDREN IN THE PARTNER VISA APPLICATION:

Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa applicants can include dependent children aged 24 and under in their application, provided the family meet the criteria below:

  • Children must be single, and
  • Have no children of their own if they’re between the ages of 18 and 24, and
  • Be financially dependent on an adult if they’re between the ages of 21 and 24

Furthermore, Immigration New Zealand expects the applicant to show that they’re their children's parent or legal guardian and have the legal right to remove 15 and younger from their home country.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

To apply for a Partner Visa, the applicant and their New Zealand partner must have lived together for at least 12 months and be in a genuine and stable relationship.

Partner Visa applicants must prove their relationship and that they have been living with their partner. The following can be used as evidence:

  • Rental agreements
  • Shared finances and other responsibilities
  • Photos, emails and social media conversations
  • Other people’s confirmation of your relationship
  • Anything else the applicant thinks acts as evidence of the relationship

The Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa is a permanent residence application, and successful applicants can thus live, work and study in New Zealand.
