SPOUSAL VISA

For foreign spouses of South African citizens or permanent residents.

Initially issued for 2 years. A permanent residence permit may be applied for if the relationship or marriage has been ongoing for at least 5 years.

  • A valid registered marriage certificate.
  • Evidence of a genuine and ongoing relationship (e.g., joint bank accounts, photographs, correspondence).
  • Proof of financial support to demonstrate the ability to support the spouse.

PARTNER VISA (UNMARRIED PARTNER VISA)

For individuals in a long-term relationship with a South African citizen or permanent resident, without being legally married.

Typically issued for 2 years, with the possibility of transitioning to permanent residency afterward.

  • Proof of the relationship (e.g., shared residence, joint finances).
  • Evidence that the relationship has existed for at least 2 years prior to the application.
  • Proof of financial stability from the South African partner.
