WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS:

Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) holders can travel to Australia:

  • to visit family and friends;
  • as a tourist; or
  • as a business visitor

WHAT ARE THE VISITOR VISA STREAMS?

  • This visa stream lets people visit Australia as a tourist, to go on a cruise, to see family and friends, or for purposes other than business or medical treatment.
  • Applicants must have enough money for their stay in Australia, and may not work in Australia.
  • Applicants must be outside Australia when applying and when the Department of Home Affairs decide on their visa.
  • Visas are granted for 3, 6 or 12 months.
  • This visa stream lets people visit Australia as a tourist, to go on a cruise, to see family and friends, or for purposes other than business or medical treatment.
  • Applicants must have enough money for their stay in Australia, and may not work.
  • Applicants must be in Australia when applying and when the Department of Home Affairs decide on their visa.
  • Visas are granted for up to 12 months.
  • This visa stream lets people who are sponsored, usually by a family member, come to Australia to visit their family members. Visa applicants can also go on a cruise or holiday.
  • Applicants must be sponsored by an eligible family member who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident.  
  • Visas are granted for up to 12 months.
  • This visa stream lets people visit Australia for business reasons.
  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Visa holders can make a short visit for business visitor reasons:
    • General business or employment enquiries
    • Negotiating contracts
    • Taking part in conferences or trade fairs without being paid
  • Visa holders can't work or sell goods or services
  • Visas are granted for up to three months.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Visitor Visa is valid for up to three months if the visa applicant is travelling for business. 

For holiday purposes, the Visitor Visa is valid for up to 12 months, with the duration decided on a case-by-case basis. The Department of Home Affairs will consider the applicant’s reason for their visit and how long they ask to stay when deciding on the duration of the visa. 

It is only possible to extend a Subclass 600 Visa in Australia if it doesn’t have a ‘no further stay’ condition. The Department of Home Affairs can waive this condition only in exceptional circumstances.

Australia grants the Visitor Visa either as a single entry or multiple entry visa. Visa applicants who get a multiple entry visa can enter and leave Australia as often as desired while their visa is valid.
