The only parents exempt from providing proof of adequate finances are parents with scholarships that guarantee maintenance and accommodation to the student's family.
Lastly, the child must have a ticket to leave New Zealand or have an eligible sponsor for the cost of the onward journey.
For the Child Of A Student Visitor Visa, Immigration New Zealand classifies a dependent child as 17 or younger or 18 or 19 with no children of their own and financially reliant on their parents.
Parents applying for a child that’s 18 or 19 might have to submit proof of their child’s financial dependency on them.
Children can study on a Child of a Student Visitor Visa for up to three months. Children who need to do so for longer will need study visas.
Work visa applicants can apply for Child of a Student Visitor Visas for their children at the same time as applying for their visa. Immigration New Zealand will only grant the children’s visas after the parent’s application is approved.
