THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

To apply for a family visa, candidates must have the following:

  • An eligible family member that’s a New Zealand citizen or resident or an eligible work or student visa holder depending on the visa the applicant applies for
  • An eligible sponsor if applying for a Partner and Grandparent Visitor Visa or a Parent Resident Visa
  • NZD1 million to invest, at least NZD500,000 to use as settlement funds, and an annual income of NZD60,000 or more if applying for a Parent Resident Visa
  • Meet New Zealand’s health and character requirements

New Zealand Family Visas are visas for eligible relatives of New Zealand citizens, residents, and visa holders. Depending on the visa, the visa holder can visit New Zealand or stay permanently. 

Parents of New Zealand citizens and residents can apply for either the Parent Retirement Visa or the Parent Resident Visa. Both visas allow parents to move to New Zealand permanently.

The main difference between the two visas is the financial requirement:

  • Parent Retirement Visa: The applicant must have sufficient investment and settlement funds plus an annual income of NZD60,000 or more.
  • Parent Resident Visa: The New Zealand child must sponsor their parent.

Family-sponsored immigration is an immigration pathway that requires an eligible New Zealander to sponsor their overseas relative’s visa application.
