WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS:
Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa holders can:
- Visit their children or grandchildren in New Zealand
- Stay in New Zealand for up to six months at a time, with a maximum total stay of 18 months in three years
- Travel in and out of New Zealand multiple times
THE REQUIREMENTS:
To apply for a Partner and Grandparent Visitor Visa, candidates must:
- Be sponsored by their child or grandchild or the parent of the child or grandchild
- Have a sponsor who is:
- a New Zealand citizen or resident,
- over the age of 18, and
- meet all the sponsorship requirements
- Provide evidence of their family relationship with their sponsor
- Cover their health care or medical assistance costs themselves while in New Zealand
- Meet New Zealand’s health and character requirements

Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa applicants can include their partners in their applications, but not their dependent children. Immigration New Zealand stipulates that dependent children must apply for their own visas.
To include partners, visa applicants must submit evidence of their relationship with their partner and show that their partner meets the identity, character and health requirements of the Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa.
New Zealand citizens and residents can act as sponsors for their parents and grandparents overseas to visit them in New Zealand. The Parents and Grandparents Visitor Visa lets visa holders visit their family for up to six months at a time, with a maximum stay of 18 months in three years.
